Standing where Lincoln stood!

The kids & I decided we HAD to get out of the house, continuing pneumonia recovery be darned! So we took a drive west to Ottawa Illinois, in search of Bald Eagles and Lincoln's footsteps. No eagles, but we did see a whole lot of hawks, a red-headed woodpecker, a raccoon, three sets of deer, a dead deer (the kids insisted I include the dead one), two cardinals AND we stood on the exact spot where Lincoln debated Douglas in August of 1858's senatorial debates! The little girl was quite taken aback with the fact that she was standing RIGHT where Lincoln stood almost 150 years ago. You can see more photos here

Here are the kids (left) standing at the exact spot where Lincoln stood for the debate

and (below) a silly close up of the little girl

The little girl took this cool shot of the country sky

Starved Rock State Park - visitor center's entrance was closed due to the flooding...
We saw tons of underwater trees like these...
And this very cool building - it appears to be a farm house - but looks quite old & I thought it resembled a hotel or borading house? Way out in the country, though...so?????

Our Roots&Shoots group went to Starved Rock on Friday, before the monsoon and saw lots and lots of eagles. We stayed home, nursing our fevers and coughs. Go again when the flooding receeds. We hope to see them this year!

Suton,
Looks like a great trip! I've always meant to do a similar trip to the capitol. I guess I didn't realize you had a blog until you stopped by to comment. I'm so glad to see you have and I'll keep you on my to-read list.

Thanks,
Kim
